The property is yours

Weddings, personal celebrations and corporate events in Kandy's hill country.

When you book Hebron Gardens House for an event, the property is yours.

Not a section of it. Not a function room in a larger hotel. The whole thing — the gardens, the pool, the garden café, the suites, the villa, every corner. No other guests. No shared reception desk. No strangers at the next table. Just your people, your celebration, your pace.

We’re a family-run property in the green hills of Peradeniya, five minutes from the Royal Botanical Gardens and fifteen from the heart of Kandy. We host a small number of events each year, which means yours gets our full attention. The garden café has hosted dinners that ran until midnight. The gardens have held a wedding — our own, as it happens, the first one here. We know what this place feels like when it’s holding something that matters.

If that’s the kind of venue you’re looking for, read on.

The spaces

The garden café

The Garden Café

The natural centre of any event here. Open-air, overlooking the pool and gardens, with views to the hills. Long tables, handbuilt chairs, and the kind of light that changes through the evening in ways no interior can replicate. Where dinners happen and cocktail hours drift.

The gardens

The Gardens

Mature trees, layered plantings, lawns and winding paths — the kind of depth that takes years to grow and no decorator can replicate overnight. A natural backdrop for ceremonies, photographs, and gatherings that need space to breathe.

The pool terrace

The Pool Terrace

Open terrace around the pool. Beautiful for drinks receptions, sunset ceremonies, and evening gatherings as the day cools down and the garden lights come on.

A garden suite

The Garden Suites

Individually designed suites in the main house — for the wedding party, the guest of honour, key family, or whoever you want on-site for the full duration.

The garden villa

The Garden Villa

A standalone three-bedroom villa with its own living room, kitchenette, and entrance. Private within the property — for the couple, a family group, or a leadership team that needs its own space.

The creative studio

The Creative Studio

Available for prep, floristry, styling, workshops — or whatever your event requires.

Weddings

The first wedding here was our own.

In these same gardens, under these same trees. We built the furniture you’ll sit on, planted some of what you’ll walk past, and we’ve watched this property hold something meaningful. That’s not something we take lightly.

We host a small number of weddings each year. Not because we can’t do more, but because we’d rather do fewer things properly. Your wedding gets our full attention, honest advice, and a venue that has real character — not the kind that gets rented out every weekend.

Exclusivity means the day is entirely yours from the moment you arrive. No other guests navigating the garden. No hotel schedule to work around. Your wedding party stays on-site. Your guests arrive to celebrate. The whole property holds the event.

How it unfolds

The best weddings here take two or three days.

Guests arrive the evening before — dinner in the garden, early night, time to settle. The wedding day arrives without the pressure of a single-day booking. Ceremony in the gardens. Photographs in the golden hour light. A long dinner at the garden café that runs late because no one wants it to end. The morning after is slow — breakfast, a swim, goodbyes that take longer than expected.

Sri Lanka for destination weddings

Kandy’s hill country is cooler, greener, and more dramatic than the coast. The light is different. The Royal Botanical Gardens are five minutes from our gate. Your guests will turn it into a proper trip — the beaches, the temples, the train to Ella, the tea country. And a boutique wedding in Sri Lanka costs a fraction of an equivalent venue in Europe or Bali, without any compromise on the experience.

Legal ceremonies for foreign nationals are straightforward in Sri Lanka. We can advise on the process or connect you with specialists.

Personal events

Some moments deserve more than a restaurant booking.

Milestone birthdays — the ones with a zero at the end. Anniversaries worth marking properly. Family reunions that need space, privacy, and room to breathe. Engagement celebrations. Farewell gatherings. Long lunches that turn into long dinners.

Hebron Gardens works for personal events because it doesn’t feel like a venue. It feels like someone’s home — because it is — which means your guests relax in a way they don’t in a hired function room. The garden café has a long table that seats a crowd. The gardens give people room to move. The pool gives them somewhere to be when they’re not eating. The suites mean the people who matter most can stay the night.

Capacity: Up to 100–150 guests
On-site accommodation: Up to 12 guests
Exclusive use: Full property
Catering: Sri Lankan home cooking by us, or bring your own caterer
Vendors: Florists, photographers, entertainment — all welcome

Corporate events

The best thinking rarely happens in a boardroom.

Hebron Gardens House is available for corporate retreats, leadership off-sites, strategy sessions, creative workshops, incentive travel programmes, and company celebrations. A setting where people arrive distracted and leave with more clarity than they expected.

We’re not a conference centre. There’s no projector screen bolted to a beige wall, no breakout rooms that smell of carpet cleaner, no fluorescent lighting. What we have is a private walled property with mature gardens, fast fibre internet throughout, an open-air café workspace, a creative studio designed for focused work, and the kind of quiet that makes it genuinely possible to think.

What we’re right for

Leadership & strategy retreats — Senior teams who need to step away from the operation. Two or three days in a private property in the hill country creates the conditions for conversations that don’t happen in the office.

Team off-sites — Bringing a team together outside the usual environment, for alignment, creativity, or rebuilding energy. A setting that signals the company values its people tends to produce better outcomes.

Creative workshops — The studio, the garden café, the open air. Spaces that activate different thinking. Environment changes the quality of what people make.

Incentive travel — Rewarding high performers with something genuinely memorable. Sri Lanka is increasingly popular as an incentive destination — accessible, spectacular, and still distinctive enough to feel like a real reward.

Company celebrations — End-of-year events, product launches, team milestones. Up to 150 people in a private garden venue in one of Asia’s most beautiful cities.

Why Sri Lanka for a corporate retreat

Getting a team genuinely away — different time zone, landscape, culture — produces a different quality of thinking. Sri Lanka provides that distance without being logistically difficult. Direct flights into Colombo from Singapore, Dubai, London, and across Asia. Kandy three hours by road or a scenic train journey through the tea hills. An exclusive-use property that costs significantly less than equivalent venues in Bali or Singapore.

And the activities around Hebron Gardens build the kind of shared experiences a hotel spa day doesn’t — cooking classes, guided hikes through the Hanthana range, tea plantation visits, Ayurvedic sessions, cultural experiences in Kandy.

Retreat capacity: 6–20 people for focused formats
Event capacity: Up to 100–150 for celebrations
On-site accommodation: Up to 12 guests
WiFi: Very fast fibre internet throughout
Technology: Projector and AV by request
Catering: Sri Lankan breakfast included; full catering by arrangement
